Description

Taizhou (DDG-138) is a modern Chinese missile destroyer. The vessel was launched in 2004 and entered service with the Chinese Navy in 2005. The length of the ship is 155.9 meters and the overall width is 17.2 meters. Full displacement is 8,400 tons, and the maximum speed is 32-33 knots. The ship’s armament consists of a single twin-barreled 130 mm naval cannon, 2 Chestnut-type direct defense systems (CIWS) and 8 SS-N-28 water-to-water missiles. The unit was able to base one Kamow Ka-27 helicopter. The cost of acquiring this ship by the PRC is estimated at approx. USD 750 million according to 2006 prices.

Taizhou (DDG-138) is a missile destroyer built by Russian shipyards, commissioned by the Chinese Navy. It is a development of the destroyer class Sovremiennyj and is marked as type / design 956EM. In relation to the first variants of the Sowremiennyj class, Taizhou has much better direct defense systems, modernized versions of the SS-N-22 missiles and – almost certainly – much more modern means of electronic warfare, communications and radars. However, it still plays the role of a unit designed primarily to fight enemy surface ships and conduct air defense. At present, Taizhou (DDG-138) is assigned to the Chinese East Sea Fleet.
